The Fiat 500 Abarth has officially made its debut at this year’s Los Angeles Auto Show. Fiat’s Chief Marketing Officer, Olivier Francois, was on hand for the unveiling of the new model and gave insight into the heritage of the Abarth name.

Based on the current Fiat 500 Sport, the Abarth gets a tuned suspension, upgraded brakes, a sportier exhaust setup, and an all-new turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine good for 160 horsepower and 170 lb-ft of torque.

In addition to performance upgrades, the limited production Abarth also received sportier styling with a more aggressive body kit all around and race-style gunmetal rims. Fiat is marketing the Abarth to the racing enthusiast and promises that the vehicle will be as adept on the track as it is on the road.

The 2012 Fiat 500 Abarth will be introduced to the market this coming March. Pricing has yet to be announced for the limited edition, but with the standard 500 starting below $16,000, expect the Abarth to be an affordable entrance into track day racing.
