Subaru BRZ Concept STI At The 2011 LA Auto Show
Meet the Subaru BRZ concept STI, one of the highlights of this weekend’s Los Angeles Auto Show and a step into uncharted territory for the Subaru brand. Wednesday’s unveiling was the first showing of the concept in actual sheet metal after a month or so of artist’s renderings floating around the web.
Styling for the sexy new BRZ is that of a true 2+2 sports coupe with a low, wide stance, flared rear fenders, and a large spoiler mounted on the trunk lid. The proportions are far more reminiscent of the bygone Toyota Supra than that of any Subaru we’ve laid eyes on;

The BRZ will be a prime example of the handling prowess of Subaru vehicles despite the absence of symmetrical all-wheel drive. A rigid, lightweight chassis houses the engine low and towards the rear of the engine compartment to achieve balanced weight distribution while a carbon fiber roof lowers the center of gravity.
Powering the concept is an all-new direct injected 2.0-liter horizontally opposed, or “BOXER”, four-cylinder engine. Though the unit found in the BRZ concept is naturally aspirated, expect to see a turbocharged version somewhere in the production lineup.
The BRZ concept is the first of its kind for Subaru, featuring a front-engine, rear-wheel drive layout. Perhaps the most exciting news surrounding the vehicle is that it will become a production model, entering production this coming spring. When it does so, it will become the only mass produced sports car in the world with a front-mounted boxer engine and RWD.
